Diethyl Pyrocarbonate (DEPC) is a colorless viscous liquid, also known as diethyl dicarbonate.
It is a strong but incomplete RNase inhibitor. It is an organic ester compound with a molecular formula of C6H10O5.
It is soluble in ethanol, ether, acetone and hydrocarbons, and slowly dissolves in water to undergo hydrolysis to generate ethanol and carbon dioxide.
DEPC can react with amines and sulfhydryl groups, so reagents containing Tris and DTT cannot be treated with DEPC.
Diethyl Pyrocarbonate is irritating and has a strong irritation to the eyes and airway mucosa. During the operation, it should be carried out under ventilated conditions as much as possible.
