Introduction to Pyrogallol
Pyrogallol, also known as pyrogallic acid, is one of the aromatic compounds, which is a white lustrous crystal. Soluble in water, alcohol, ether, slightly soluble in benzene, chloroform and carbon disulfide. Pyrogallol sublimates when heated. It will turn brown when exposed to light or in the air. When the solution is alkaline, it will quickly absorb oxygen and change color.
Pyrogallol is a chemical reagent and chemical raw material with various uses. It has strong reducibility and can also undergo substitution reaction on the benzene ring. Pyrogallol will absorb water in alkaline solution and turn from colorless to purple. It can also absorb oxygen.
