Hexamethylenetetramine Definition:
Hexamethylenetetramine, also known as: urotropine. The molecular formula is C6H12N4, and the molecule contains four triazacyclohexane rings fused to each other. It is a polycyclic heterocyclic compound similar in structure to adamantane.
In general, it is a white crystal and is flammable. There is no smoke when burning, the energy density is as high as 30.0MJ/kg, and it does not liquefy or leave ashes when burning.
Soluble in water, conveniently soluble in many organic solvents, insoluble in ether, fragrant hydrocarbons, and so on. It has solid solubility in water and also polar natural solvents.
Urotropine responds with fuming nitric acid to develop RDX, a highly explosive ‘cyclone dynamite’.
