2-Nitrotoluene is also called o-nitrotoluene, 1-methyl-2-nitrobenzene, etc. The product is a yellow oily transparent liquid with the smell of nitrobenzene.

2-Nitrotoluene is soluble in benzene, chloroform and petroleum ether, miscible with ethanol and ether, and volatilizes with water vapor.
