Tert-butanol (TBA, IUPAC: 2-methyl-2-propanol), also known as tertiary butanol or neobutanol, is the simplest tertiary alcohol and one of the four isomers of butanol.
Tertiary butanol is a camphor-flavored liquid that is easily soluble in water, ethanol and ether. The melting point of tert-butanol is just over 25°C, so it may be solid at room temperature.
These properties make tert-butanol a useful solvent and additive, one of the most versatile petrochemicals.
